Metallic or amalgam fillings were standard practice until not so long ago. These filling were effective and were the only material strong enough to withstand the incredible forces exerted by chewing. They had their drawbacks though, as they require extensive drilling, contain mercury, can stain teeth and are often considered unsightly.

With advancements in dental materials and the development of 'composite fillings' it is possible to have restorative fillings that match the colour of your natural teeth as well as hold up to the force of chewing. These 'composite fillings' are made of a porcelain-like material that actually bonds to the tooth for a tight seal. They are strong, stain-resistant, and hard to distinguish from the natural tooth. These white fillings often lack the sensitivity that is associated with the older 'silver' fillings.

If appropriate, Dr. Hahn can replace your old fillings with these newer 'composite filling' and bring some new life into your smile.
