The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal government initiative aimed at removing financial barriers to dental care. This program provides partial coverage for dental expenses to Canadian residents who do not have dental benefits and whose household income is below $90,000 annually.
Please note, it is not a free dental care program; it only covers a portion of the cost of your treatment.
We do not manage registration or eligibility for the CDCP. For more information, please contact the CDCP hotline at 1-833-537-4342 (TTY: 1-833-677-6262) or visit your nearest Service Canada office.
The CDCP does not cover all dental services, and some treatments may not be eligible. According to the Government of Canada, examples of services that could be covered under the CDCP (when recommended by an oral health provider) include:
Details on the frequency of these covered procedures can be found on the official CDCP Guide.
Yes. Although it may appear that the CDCP provides 100% coverage, this refers only to the CDCP-approved fees. These fees differ from the Ontario Dental Association Fee Guide that we follow, and any difference must be covered by the patient.
We’ve been informed that the government is working to address this gap, but at this time, patients are responsible for the difference in cost. If changes are made to cover this gap, we will not be able to issue a refund; however, you may be able to claim it through SunLife. We do not have further details on this at the moment.
We will do our best to submit pre-determinations to check coverage in advance, but this may not always be possible. Any co-pays will be due at the time of treatment. If you choose to proceed with treatment without a pre-determination (for example, if you have a broken tooth causing pain), and if coverage is denied by SunLife, you will be responsible for the full cost of the treatment.
